During this five-week journey, we visited seven countries: Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania. Along the way, we traveled by plane, train, bus, boat, and, most of all, on foot.
We explored countless mosques, cathedrals, and Orthodox churches, enjoyed innumerable cups of coffee, and sampled a wide variety of Balkan and Mediterranean cuisine. In Italy and Slovenia, we were joined by my sister and her husband. Later, in Croatia, two of our friends joined us for part of the trip. After saying goodbye to my sister and brother-in-law, we continued our journey through the Balkans, and eventually our friends also headed home. In the end, it was just the two of us again, spending our final nights in Lugano and Zurich before returning home.
While the beautiful landscapes, historic towns, and cultural treasures were unforgettable, the greatest joy came from sharing the journey with family and friends.
